ABOUT
Dekker is the solo project of American indie folk songwriter and musician Brookln Dekker, based in Nottingham, England. His songs are often about difficult things but arrive with an unexpected lightness. A distinctive falsetto and an instinct for melody give even his more searching songs a sense of warmth and possibility.
Before releasing his first solo music in 2019, Brookln spent more than a decade recording and touring internationally with his wife in the duo Rue Royale, followed by a collaboration with pianist and composer Lambert. As Dekker, he has released four albums and an EP through his own imprint, Useful Fictions. His catalogue has accumulated 250 million streams across digital platforms.
His fifth album, Man on the Mend, will be released on 19 February 2027. Its ten songs were recorded at home, then mixed and mastered by Zach Hanson in Wisconsin, USA.
“These songs were written during a time of deep reflection and self discovery. I was working with psychologists, going through past trauma, while my immediate family was in its own real-time crisis. The songs became lifeboats and decipher codes for me along the way.”
There is playfulness in the record, too. Opening song “Carried Away” invites the listener to step outside the noise and be present. Brookln played it at concerts for months before its release, with audiences picking up its wordless refrain and singing it back while the song was still unfamiliar.
Over twenty years, Brookln has played just under 2,000 concerts, nearly 300 of them as Dekker. Several sold out headline tours have helped build particularly strong audiences in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Performing alone or with a small band, he brings humour and candour to shows where the stories between songs are part of the evening.
Dekker’s music has received radio support across Europe, including BBC Radio 6 Music in the UK, FIP in France, Radio Eins, Deutschlandfunk and egoFM in Germany, Radio 1 in the Czech Republic and Radio Superfly in Austria. His songs have featured in Netflix’s Kitz, while “Can’t Unsee It” appeared on This American Life.
For all the ground covered, Man on the Mend finds Brookln still making sense of things as he goes. He calls it “a document of a man on the mend, a work in progress
